Thanksgiving

We had just a quiet Thanksgiving in Atlantic Beach – except for the 1500 person street party at Pete’s Bar. There is a fun tradition here the morning of Thanksgiving… they block of the street in front of one of the local “dive” bars and everyone comes and drinks Bloody Mary’s until 2pm. Kids running around, lots of people to talk to. We didn’t know it was going to be as big as it was… Jason had to go back home and bring a cooler because we couldn’t get close enough to the bar for a drink. What fun!

It was just the three of us for dinner… our plans with two different sets of friends fell through due to illnesses. We made a big hearty mushroom soup, garilic bread, wine and my very first pumkin pie! De-licious and cruelty free! We contiuned our tradition by going around the table, announcing what we were thankful for. Lola enjoyed licking the freshly whipped cream beaters!

Turns out Rochester is cool…

November 14, 2008 at 8:03 pm (Uncategorized)

Lola and I took a little jaunt to New York, Rochester to be specific. We went to visit our good friends the Morriseseseses. Lola and Louisa didn’t skip a beat – holding hands in their carseats on the way home from the airport – wish I’d had a camera in had for that.

Rochester is a neat town – we loved the open market – lots of veggies, fruits, cheeses, toilet brushes – what? Yes… you could get anything at this market. We also went to their awesome children’s museum, where lola got to meet all the sesame street characters, curious george, and she got to pretend to be a very upset manager of a kid-sized supermarket –  she got on the microphone “clean up in aisle 2”.

Carla has been working on a new line of clothes, which are selling like hotcakes. She has quite a talent. Her clothes use fabric from discarded clothing at a Thrift Store OUTLET – everything is 50 cents. She and I went one day and found some great stuff… a carload. She hasn’t stopped sewing. Check out her stuff here and tell everyone who’s looking for a really unique gift! She does custom orders too!

I forgot how much I love fall and the beautiful leaves! We don’t get that in Florida. When we were landing in Baltimore (layover) the trees looked so amazing – pow, powpow, kaPOW! The colors really popped all over the place.

We had GREAT weather while in Rochester.  The last day was rainy and chilly, but otherwise we had 60s and sun.

We MISS Carla, Jason, Louisa and Charlie so much and wish to God we lived closer! Maybe someday.

This way to the Festival

We had a fall festival with Lola’s school – fun fun fun! It was held at a park about 3 blocks from our house, which was nice to be able to walk! There was bobbing for apples (Lola cheated!), flag painting, face painting, rice grinding, bean bag making, candy apple making (and eating), food and lots of playing and chatting.
